Representatives of Latvian Cleantech cluster also known as CleanTech Latvia Evija Pudane and Sabine Scerbaca with partners from “WATEX”, Ltd., “Karme Filtrs”, Ltd. and “Belss”, Ltd. made a study visit to Finland as a part of “The Nordic-Baltic Mobility and Network Programme for Business and Industry” project. During the visit on January 27 – 29 the delegates visited organizations and companies of cleantech field interested in working in foreign markets and international cooperation on Central Asia projects.
One of the organizations operating in Finland, Lahti region, to help companies that operate in the Lahti region or that plan to relocate to the area in all situations and all stages of development is LADEC. LADEC provides support and expertise for starting a new business and launching its operations, for the everyday challenges of small businesses and for relocating to the Lahti region and finding business premises. During the visit, LADEC presented the main directions of its activities and the recent reorganization as well as the program “PROTOMO” which is a support mechanism for the provision of start-up companies to help companies grow and innovate.
The desirability of products as well as the profitability of production can be boosted through industrial design which is an important scope of LADEC. Industrial design does not only mean creating a beautiful external appearance. It means combining user-friendly industrial design, technology, materials and marketing expertise. LADEC offers the companies in the Lahti region services which improve the use of industrial design and assist companies in compiling a design strategy.
Two of LADEC start-ups also took a part in the discussion with CleanTech Latvia and our partners. One of them – Nocart – delivers unique and cost-effective electricity production solutions that can combine several power sources and deliver high quality electricity in all conditions. But Production Software provides businesses with diverse consulting services alongside quality software solutions which are specially designed to scale easily with the needs of companies of different sizes. Both of the companies successfully demonstrated their potential, caused and showed interest in continuing talks on possible cooperation in various projects.
Participants also visited two enterprises in Lahti region, in which saw a great potential for cooperation. Both of the companies – HansHeat and Ferroplan – have developed from a family business working in the energy and water treatment sectors. When discussing the experience and scope of all the parties involved, the conclusion was that there is a very successful business cooperation possible in the future.
In Helsinki CleanTech Latvia and partners participated in a discussion with Finnish Water Forum andGreen Net Finland. Finnish Water Forum is an organization working in the water sector and is detached from the Cleantech Finland, while the Green Net Finland is a cleantech business network representing Finnish cleantech cluster in Helsinki region focusing on environmental monitoring and energy efficiency in urban environment. The discussion was also attended by the partner organizations – companies whose goal is to know more and do business the Central Asian markets through international cooperation projects. CleanTech Latvia and partners shared their experience on the Central Asian market specifics and on the results obtained in order to promote the interest of the market with great potential for cooperation and to initiate the implementation of various activities. The interest of participants and the exchange of experience resulted in a development of a project concept.
